Maha Shivaratri is celebrated
with reverence of Lord Shiva and falls on March 7. The festival, which is
considered as one of the most promising is celebrated with utmost devotion and
religious fervor.
This festival is very important
for women, since it is believed that Lord Shiva worship helps one to find a
good husband like Shiva. Devotees are fast on this day and they worship Shiva
Linga.
fast Shivaratri is considered to
be the most important for the devotees of Lord Shiva fasting. Shiva Purana goes
on to say that if a devotee sincerely observes Shivratri Vrat, pure devotion
and love which is blessed with divine grace of Lord Shiva. Every year the
devotees observe Maha Shivaratri fast with devotion and sincerity. While many
go on a diet of fruits and milk, some not consume even a drop of water
throughout the day and night of Shivaratri festival.
Devotees still singing 'Om Namah
Shivaya' and 'Har Har Mahadev'. and perform special ritual bath in seedlings of
Shiva with milk, honey and continue chanting prayers, "Oh Lord! I will
bathe You with water, milk, etc. do you kindly bathe me with the milk of
wisdom. Makes you kindly I wash all my sins, so that the fire of worldliness
that is burning me may be put out once and for all, so that I can be one with thee-the one alone without a second. "
