New York: Whether your goal is
the overall weight loss and better overall health, researchers recommend eating
peanuts or peanut butter three to four times a week. According to a new study,
adolescents at high risk of being overweight or obese reduced their body mass
index (BMI) when adhering to a nutritional intervention that included a snack
of peanuts, compared to children who do not they did.
The study recognizes that
snacking is most common during adolescence and unhealthy eating habits can lead
to a healthy weight. In the 12-week study, 257 adolescents instructors guide
three charter schools in the Houston area through a program of physical
activity and nutrition education.
About half of the students
received a snack of peanut or peanut butter three to four times a week, while
the rest received the morsel less than once a week. Peanuts were chosen because
snack nuts are rich in nutrients that promote a feeling of fullness. The
students spent 12 weeks snack maintain healthy habit. The results showed that
students who received the snack more often experienced a decrease in their body
mass index overall compared with those who did not receive regular peanut
snack.
