Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba, 56, on Monday took oath as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu
and Kashmir.

Party’s was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, bring back to a popular
government after 11 weeks the rule of the Governor’s, imposed following the demise
of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Governor N.N. Vohra also
administered the oath of office to 22 ministers, 11 each of the members of the
PDP and the BJP alliance.
Congratulating Ms. Mufti, PrimeMinister Narendra Modi tweeted: "The new government of J & K leave no
stone unturned in fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and take the state to new heights of progress."
Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu,
Jitendra Singh and Kaur Badal Harsimrat were present at the inauguration
ceremony. "It is good that a popular government is back in the same agreed
agenda. The focal point will be good and clean government. The delay [in
forming the government] only helped mutual understanding and removing misconceptions
"said BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, principal partner of the
Center for the coalition crisis after the disappearance of Mr. Sayeed on
January 7.
Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal
Singh stressed that the alliance "only focuses on governance and not an
alliance of political ideologies."
Later, chairing her first meeting
of the Council of Ministers, Ms Mufti called "prevent corruption and
ensure transparency."
The PDP has been reduced to four
former ministers while induction of two new faces. The BJP also installed two
new people in the Council of Ministers. Among those who fell by Ms. Mufti's PDP
leader Altaf Bukhari high. Tariq Hameed Karra Deputy boycotted the inauguration
ceremony. Mr. Karra opposes the PDP-BJP alliance, but threw his weight behind
the coalition government recently after "guarantees" a top party
post.
Leaders of the National
Conference Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah also attended the swearing in ceremony, but Congress boycotted the function. Most independent lawmakers had
also disappeared.
