The government is expected to
approve the goods and services tax (GST) and bankruptcy bills in the second
half of the budget session of parliament from April 20, Finance Minister Arun
Jaitley on Sunday said.
"The present session of
Parliament has seen the legislation of a milestone two days ago. And I hope to
see additional two getting passes in the second part of the session, with
respect to the laws of bankruptcy and insolvency and GST," he said, in the
advancing Asia Conference here.
"I think this gives greater
impetus or push for our reform process," said Finance Minister Arun
Jaitley.
"We are trying to have a
special emphasis now, both in terms of legislative changes and resources are
putting to strengthen the banking system. I feel like coming months to achieve
structural change will be actual important," he added.
Parliament approved the Law
Aadhaar last week, providing legal coverage system unique identification number
(UID) that facilitates the transfer of cash and benefits identified grant
recipients.
The bill for a pan-India GST for
a thorough reform of the system of indirect taxes in India has been approved by
the House but stalled in the Rajya Sabha, where the ruling National Democratic
Alliance (DNA) lacks most.
