Xiaomi MI 5 First Impressions: A Snapdragon 820 Powered Beast At Rs 24,999

Xiaomi has finally released the Xiaomi MI 5 in India at an event in New Delhi.

Xiaomi has finally released the Xiaomi MI 5 in India at an event in New Delhi. Priced at Rs 24,999, the variant storage 3GB RAM + 32GB will be released on April 6. With the launch, India has become one of the first markets to get the Xiaomi MI 5 out of China. We had the opportunity to play with the device and here are our first impressions.

Design and Build

The Xiaomi MI 5 borrowed a lot of elements of your phone Note My series and this was confirmed by Barra too. Xiaomi has perfected the design of the 3D curve glass, so it is much more rounded than that observed in the My Note. The metal structure merges seamlessly into the glass back on the edges. Chamfering has much steeper. In a word, MI 5 looks elegant and with only about 7.25mm thick and weighing around 129 g, is impressive how he has managed to have the camera flush with the plane of the body and 3000mAh battery is included. 3D is a variant of ceramic.

While the feel in the hand of the device is good and MI5 part of a flagship phone is, be careful when holding it as we thought it was too slippery for our taste. Also, while the bezels on the sides are much thinner than the top and bottom, 5.1-inch screen in the MI 5 it means that the phone has a higher frame. On the front here is the start button slim that also functions as a fingerprint scanner. Onscreen buttons have a backlight that is good.

The left edge has the nano SIM card slot and the right had side has volume control and power button / standby. There is a USB Type C port on the base surrounded by two speaker grilles.

Display

The Xiaomi MI 5 sports a Full HD display of 5.15 inches which we thought was very thoughtful. IPS uses a LCD panel that gives good viewing angles and the text appears sharp. As we saw in the Mi4i, MI 5 is also compatible with sunlight display to return to dynamically adjust the brightness of pixels, so you do not have to squint when they are in sunlight.

Chipset, RAM, storage and connectivity

Mi 5 comes in three variants in all variants - 32GB and 64GB and ceramic variant 128GB. At the moment, Xiaomi is launching only the 32GB model for the Indian market will have 3 GB of RAM. Xiaomi has used LPDDR4 RAM and storage UFS 2.0 standard flash memory. Both the house phones Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset that has a custom four-core processors clocked at 2.2 GHz with Adreno 530 Kryo along GPU. This makes the Xiaomi MI 5 very fast to operate. And of course there were no problems while browsing or trying in different applications on the phone. There is no provision for expandable storage.

In terms of connectivity, all MI 5 variants will support 4G + or LTE advanced with support for VoLTE too. two SIM cards are needed in nano. 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with AGPS, NFC, which allows read / write and emulation card to pass through faster using only your phone and more. Xiaomi has for the first time uses a start button on their devices and this home button also functions as a fingerprint scanner.

OS and Software

Xiaomi Mi 5 series comes with Android 6.0 marshmallow, along with MIUI 7 operating system above it. Xiaomi has developed an Android app called My Video Call (downloadable via the Play Store) that allow you to do many interesting things while in a video call. Screen phones did not. Apart from this are the regular topics MI, segregation of messages according to personal messages and services, and so on. To read a list based on MIUI 7. Xiaomi camera pays attention to their cameras as we have seen with the E4 / Mi4i. For MI 5, Xiaomi has used the 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor that will be seen for the first time on a smartphone. It is compatible with AF phase detection and comes with a new technology called deep trench isolation (DTI), which provides pixel for pixel isolation to prevent light leakage between them. How that will translate into usage scenarios real world? We can only say after using the camera. As for the front camera, Xiaomi MI 5 sports a 4 MP camera with a pixel size of 2 microns. On the video front, you can record 4K videos too. Xiaomi is using the image processor Qualcomm spectrum for behind the scenes work after clicking your picture.

The most important feature of the camera My 5, though has to be the optical image stabilization 4-axis which compensates for camera shake along the longitudinal, latitudinal planes, the rolling motion and stutter caused due to shots while He is walking. Xiaomi has managed to include OIS 4 axes and ensures that the camera module does not protrude and is flush with the back.

Battery

Xiaomi has used a 3000mAh battery for the series MI 5 and is not removable. Given that houses a Snapdragon 820 phone sports 3.0 QuickCharge technology, claims that Xiaomi takes just one hour to load the My 5. We, of course, have to see for ourselves. So all that load 10 min gives video playback 2.6 hours at full brightness, we would take that with a pinch of salt.

Conclusion

Xiaomi has launched variant 32GB storage MI 5 with 3 GB of RAM for Rs 24,999. 64 GB or 128 GB variants have not yet been announced for the Indian market. If you look at Chinese prices, then the 32 GB variant should have been priced closer to Rs 21,000 and the 64GB should ideally have been at the price point of Rs 24,999. As you may disappoint some potential buyers.

But having said this, the MI 5 is a direct descendant of the note of the Mi series and those phones, although not launched in India, had a higher price for Xiaomi standards even in China. The Xiaomi MI 5 is the latest flagship phone the Chinese company, so a high price expected. The real challenge will be to see how other competitors price their devices Snapdragon 820. We are looking Leeco, OnePlus and Meizu, whose flagship is expected at any time.

Xiaomi MI 5 Black Gold Silver

Xiaomi certainly has ensured that the series MI 5 has left no stone unturned in terms of specifications on paper. Well, some may balk at a Full HD screen instead of QuadHD, but looking at the MyScreen 5 which really have no complaints. The Snapdragon 820 is certainly something to consider because it uses custom designed Qualcomm CPU cores.

Xiaomi claims that the Snapdragon 820 in the late MI5 Exynos 8890 is seen on the Galaxy S7. We will have to prove that the claim of course. We will be particularly interested in the performance of heat management, performance battery and camera among other things. Keep checking the site for a full review of the Xiaomi MI 5 soon.
