Kalabhavan Mani died in a private hospital here on Sunday afternoon. He was 45.
The death occurred around 7:15 p.m.
Dr. Sanjeev Singh, senior medical
administrator of the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences here, told The Hindu
that the actor was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night with hematemesis
(vomiting blood). Sources said the actor was suffering from liver and kidney
ailments.
Amid conflicting reports about
the cause of death, it was decided to carry out an autopsy at the Hospital
Medical College in Thrissur Government on Monday. "The body will remain at
the morgue in the hospital before completing the paperwork as soon as possible
on Monday. The decision on whether to keep the body for the public to pay
tribute in Thrissur would be taken later. They are making efforts to carry out
the cremation in Chalakudy on Monday night, "said Idavela Babu,
representative of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes.
A senior police official
Cheranalloor confirmed that the hospital authorities had informed Sunday
morning that the actor was hospitalized after vomiting blood. "We could
not record his statement as he was in a critical condition and put on the
respirator," he said.
Mani had acted in over 200 films
in Malayalam and other languages of southern India.
