India lifted the trophy of the Asian Cup for the sixth time
after beating Bangladesh by a comprehensive eight wicket margin in the final
time-hit in the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Chasing a difficult target of 121 runs in the allotted 15
overs after rain led to two hour delay at the start of the match,
Virat Kohli and guided the men-in-blue the house.
After the early departure of Rohit Sharma, Kohli (41 not out
off 28 to balls) associated Dhawan (60 vs. 44 balls) to sew a match winning 94
runs partnership for the second wicket.
India has won the continental tournament more than six times
followed by Sri Lanka (5).
Previous Indian bowling players lost their way in the final
surplus after an impressive start as Bangladesh rode on fire 13-ball 33 from
Mahmudullah Riad to post a competitive 120 for five in their allotted 15 overs.
The match was reduced to 15-over-a-side after a period of
downpours resulted in a two-hour delay to the start of the proceedings.
The turning point was the 13rd by Nehra (1/33) and most
importantly the 14th most Hardik Pandya lapped (1/35).
14 came off over Nehra while Pandya was taken by 21 in the
penultimate over with hitting Mahmudullah for a boundary and two huge sixes.
Indian pacemaker Jasprit Bumrah granted only 13 runs and
took a wicket in his three scales.
Jasprit Bumrah (1/13) was outstanding to death, while
Ravichandran Ashwin (1/14) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/25) also bowled accurately.
But the slam-bang approach Mahmudullah went to get the hosts 42 runs in the
last three scales.
Sabbir as Rahaman scored 32 of 29 balls, but was more
moderate than his usual self as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other
end to Mahmudullah took the attack back to the opposition camp.
