Storms in Bangladesh finals after dramatic chase
Bangladesh quelled the demons
inside pass a modest amount provided by Pakistan and secured their first T20
final entry in Cricket Stadium Sher-e-Bangla here on Wednesday.
The host returns from the cliff
edge, playing a dramatic 19 on the fortune moves like a pendulum, to reform the
target of 130 set by Pakistan with five wickets and as many balls to spare.
Making the rest of the league phase inconsequential, Bangladesh now play India
in the final scheduled for Sunday.
Veteran Mohammad Sami, who was
given the task of bowling the penultimate over, shot two no balls so it is
possible that hitters host - captain Mashrafe Murtaza and Mohammad Mahmudullah
- to score the most runs and ensure victory that seemed difficult at one point
of time. The drama peaked in the fourth installment of Sami when Kurram Manzoor
caught a loft unit Murtaza in the long just to find the arbiter of his denial
signaling a no ball. Bangladesh willingly accepted the postponement and Sami
made even to roll easier the second no-ball in the final installment, which
Mahmudullah sent to the fence and then took a single off the resulting
unsuccessfully to secure a collection of 15 runs from the other time.
Mahmudullah reached a limit in the first ball of Anwar Ali, who rolled to the
final, ending one of the most remarkable victories of the fledgling nation of
cricket.
Bangladesh began and opener
Soumya Sarkar played a good knock of 48 (48b, 5x4, 1x6) to make the victory
possible aspect of an easier way. Sarkar looked in handling the Pakistani
attack with confidence command and played the lead in two good partnerships -
of 33 runs with Sabbir Rahman (second wicket) and 37 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim
(third wicket) - to put the host in progress. But the elegant left-hander, who
later won the best player in the game, was undone by a brilliant Yorker
Mohammad Amir in the 14 to see the Bangladesh batting retraction in a shell.
Amir Shakib Al Hasan scalped next Shoaib Malik after Rahim had trapped leg
before delving into the crisis to Bangladesh. The situation was finally rescued
by the pair of Murtaza invicta and Mahmudullah.
Previously, Sarfaraz Ahmed scored
an unbeaten 58 to help Pakistan survive a collapse and reach 129 for seven.
Ahmed was associated with Shoaib Malik (41) for a partnership of 70 runs for
the fifth wicket to rescue Pakistan tottering at 28 for four at one stage.
Sahid Afridi captain of Pakistan decided to bat on winning the toss and the
visitors ran into a crisis as Bangladesh bowlers put up a disciplined show.
Interestingly, Bangladesh bowlers do not give away a single extra stroke and
maintain the Pakistanis always under control except for two outstanding entries
Ahmed and Malik.
